The initial donation to start Internet Bement was made in 1997 by Central Illinois Manufacturing Company (CIMCO), a fuel filter manufacturer with headquarters in Bement. Three months after the donation was made, Internet Bement went online with high-speed reliable Internet connectivity to schools, residents, and businesses in the Bement, Piatt County, and Ivesdale areas. Internet Bement was totally self-sufficient until the Village of Bement decided, for economic reasons, not to run the service any longer in December 2005.
